Peaches and Cream
Jane
sat on the hood of the car. They were waiting in the parking lot for the others
to arrive before they left for the party. Fresh from her European holiday, Jane
had a lot of exciting stories she was animatedly narrating. There was a lot of
noise and one could say that everyone was happy to be back together after the
summer.
That summer had been exceptionally warm. Waiting endlessly for Diesel made it even more
annoying. There were days when he would just saunter in and drop himself on the
couch beside her. His charming smile would disarm her in seconds and she would
be happy to have him to herself for a few hours. Then there were weeks where he
would be missing, not returning her calls or messages. She was often left
wondering and baffled, to seem standoffish and keep her distance or to give in
to the burning desire to be held by him and risk appearing a bloodsucker.
He put an end to her misery one day. He took
her to the rickety lane near the house and parked up behind the broken shed.
There in the dark, she sat waiting, hoping to be physically crushed by him, his
arms and his lips. He said, “It’s not going to happen. There is much I have to
do in life and l have to keep my focus.” That was it. It must have been
seconds, maybe minutes or even longer. But when she regained her composure,
they were already at her porch and he was waiting for her to leave.
They
were all back now and the cool September breeze was heavily laden with
moisture. It was threatening to rain and some friends were yet to arrive. The
first time, Jane thought that she had imagined it. Possibly a mistake? But when
he did it again, she knew it was for her. His fingers felt warm, stealthily
pressing down on her arm. He stood as close to her as possible and his breath
was burning her back through the sheer fabric. What was happening she wondered
and dared to look up at him questioningly? There, his eyes said it all. His
mind and body were echoing her thoughts and feelings. He wanted to be one with
her and the urgency of his desire was more than evident to her. Did anyone else
catch it? Was she blushing Peaches and Cream?
Their
last car arrived just then. She said with her eyes, “Later.”
